EDM Artist Look - Madeon

Madeon has become a somewhat popular name in the EDM music scene in the past year, perhaps most well-known for his remix of Deadmau5's "Raise Your Weapon" (which you can find here). Due to his rising success and admirable production, I decided to do some research in to this producer - who happens to be only 17 years old.

Madeon's real name is Hugo Pierre Leclercq, and he was born in May of 1994. The electropop producer lives in Nantes, France and has been producing music since the age of 11. The first of his electronic releases to gain popularity was a remix of “The Island” by Pendulum, released in 2010.

He cites his greatest musical influences as Daft Punk and the Beatles, which is interesting considering their vastly differing genres. Perhaps it is his variety of musical taste that contributes to the unique electronic sound that he produces. Madeon says the main goal of his current style was to "implement the glitchy detailed aspect of electro in a more melodic pop context. I like the idea of having a continuous melody that is played subsequently by various, sometimes unrelated instruments." He also says he is influenced by pop-producers such as Stuart Price, and has a fascination for simple yet striking pop productions.

Madeon started out using the music production software FL Studio and continues to use it for his work today. He says, "It's a really fantastic piece of software. I don't believe in the hardware myth, so my set up is pretty much a computer, a keyboard, and a pair of speakers."

After gaining popularity from tracks such as “The Island”, “Raise Your Weapon”, and “Icarus”, Madeon appeared on radio show BBC1 in Britain in 2011 and has continued to book gigs and festivals, as well as release singles after signing to independent label “popcultur”. In summer 2012, he is scheduled to appear at Coachella and Ultra Music Festival, as well as other venues. Be sure to keep an eye on this young producer for upcoming releases!
